Vehicle Story: I bought this truck in 1995. Already had the Chevy engine, and was in the original turqoise. It has always been used as a truck, not a weekend warrior. I´ve carried sheet rock stacked 12" ABOVE the side boards home from Home Depot, hauled 2 tons of cement bags at a time, carried countless loads to the dumps, etc. after 9 years of my misuse of this old man, i decided he needed some better treatment, so he got a new Chevy 250, complete interior rework including original door panels and kick panels using the original vinyl salvaged from a discarded wagon´s interior. Also, the front and side headliners were reconstructed using the original cardboard with sewn vinyl trim. The metal window trim was blasted and repainted in the original Amber enamel. I bought a working horn off a ´60 truck from the local Jeep junkyard, blasted it, repainted and it works. A partial original heater plenum (just the metal parts) was found and purchased off eBay. I added new cardboard and mounted it to the original heater motor. The plenum and heater are hooked up to the original push-pull heater controls. The Air Control was refurbished to work like new. The defroster ducting is new and really works well. I made a template for the tailgate "Jeep" insignia, and used a Walck´s template for the "4 Wheel Drive" to finish the tailgate. I removed a PO´s welded-on bumper with a ball-hitch, and fabricated new taillamp mounts so i could get the original style taillamps on and working. I drive this truck daily, and still use it for runs to the hardware store and the trash disposal site. It gets smiles and nods of appreciation wherever it goes. I love to drive, work on, and look at it. The only thing about it that I dont like is the engine, its not original. To fit the Chevy required cutting of the frame, so it will never be as built. So last year I bought a ´61 with a Super Hurricane that is undergoing a body-off restoration. When it is done, I will probably sell this, my old friend. The only time I can´t drive it daily is in the summer and fall, it is just too hot down here in Arizona. However, even then I use it to haul what needs to be hauled. It has NEVER failed me. It was sold in September, 2005. The new owner loves it as much as I did. Farewell old friend.
